August 3
Scott Frost, along with several players, took their talents to the podium for a preseason press conference yesterday.
Here are my 3 takeaways:
Immediate culture change
If you saw the press conference, you probably noticed the undeniable fire in the players’ eyes while taking past skepticism head on. Addressing the problems they’ve had in the past and how they’re flipping the script with Frost and the rest of the staff.
Yeah, yeah, I know the players and coaches say similar things every year before the season but it seems different this time around. Tanner Farmer mentioning championships, Luke Gifford gaining 40 pounds since arriving on campus, Scott Frost just being the “tell me everything I want to hear and more and make me believe it” head coach…
It’s different.
Tanner Farmer can lift heavy things
So by now you’ve seen the video of the potential starting center, Tanner Farmer, squat 765 pounds 3 times. This guy said he is squatting around 800 currently and also set a new goal… 1,000 pounds.
I haven’t lifted 1,000 pounds at the gym collectively in my life. Not Joking.
Here’s a list of things that are 1,000 pounds:
1. A standard car
2. A street pole
3. Whale testicles
4. 5 ½ JD Spielmans
Sooo, Tanner Farmer can lift heavy things. Let’s hope that can translate to pushing Defensive Linemen backwards this season.
Tanner also had the best ending to a press conference in Nebraska Football history: “I don’t want to win just the Big Ten championship. I want to win the championship. That’s my goal. A lot of people say winning the national championship isn’t a realistic goal. I’m not about realistic. I want it all. Go big or go home. Thank you.”
*Husker nation poops everywhere*
This is exactly what we need to hear from the players. Yeah we hear this similar speech every year about setting goals high but that needs to be the standard eventually so setting the culture now for that kind of thinking for years to come will hopefully pay off one day.
Program unity is back
When a school hires the favorite son/alma mater guy unity comes by default.
Scott Frost coming to Nebraska brought everyone back on board from the players, fans, administration, coaches, and down the line. But rightfully so.
Frost has won everywhere he’s been and has a system that fits speed and space. Speaking of speed and space let me mention a few names quick…
Adrian Martinez, Maurice Washington, Greg Bell, Miles Jones, Tyjon Lindsey, Jaevon MQuitty, Stanley Morgan Jr., JD Spielman, Mike Williams, Jaron Woodyard.
So, considering that Scott Frost walks on water in Lincoln, he has a proven method, and the players seem to be on board, things are looking up for the Husker Football program with the whole state moving in the same direction.
Take it for what it’s worth. GBR!
